The one and only Pie&Vinyl Record Adventure (Quarterly Record Club)

Pie&Vinyl Record Adventure – Pie&Vinyl’s annual record club is here! Let us send you records for a year…

Record Adventure…with Pie&Vinyl

Who wants to join our club? Although we feel a bit strange calling it a club, as this is for everyone no matter what kind of creature you are

…Let’s rephrase, who wants to go on a record journey? For a year?

Well, we thought that as our great friendship flourishes, you may even trust us to pick some records for you?

For just £100 per annul, we will send to your home address four highly recommended (by the staff) records, once a quarter.

Breaking that down – that’s one top record of our esteemed salutation, every three months!

We will also include a mystery Pie&Vinyl gift with every record you receive (it may even be a pie in the post) – plus, when you sign up for our adventures in sound, we give you a Pie&Vinyl T shirt of your choice! You will also receive a special identifiable record adventure bracelet, as we also give you priority at in store performances (you’ll always get in no matter what!) Pie&Vinyl presents shows priority chance to purchase tickets (and we are planning some big acts next year) plus special offer discounts in store, like random 10% off weekends and ‘Sale’ stock browsing before anyone else!

To take advantage of our yearly subscription, pop in to the store where we will sign you up and present you with your uniform or e mail [email protected]

This offer runs for the first 2 months of a quarter. At the end of the third month in the quarter, we will send the goods…

This may be easier to explain:

Jan & Feb (Sign Up) End of March we send the goods…

April & May (Sign Up) End of June we send the goods…

July & August (Sign Up) End of September we send the goods…

October & November End of December we send the goods before Christmas:)

You can sign up at any point during the year but your adventure starts from the period outlined above and will last for four records.

Let us take you on an adventure!

Pie&Vinyl Rough Lists of Records of the Year 2016 – The Peoples Choice Record Of The Year is: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – SKELETON KEY

Drum Roll….and the The Peoples Choice Record Of The Year 2016 is: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – SKELETON KEY another drum roll…and the randomly selected winner of a £20 music voucher and a meal to accompany is Martin Boorman – please contact [email protected] to claim your winnings! Thanks for the fun guys! now on to 2017 – what great records will be in this years list eh?

Anyway, on to our recommended lists. We don’t always go in for ‘the best record of the year’ as musical taste is such a personal choice, it makes that impossible.

So, find some of the staffs favourites, mentions of music we just couldn’t miss out, a random loyal customer who was good enough to send us their favourites and of course the official Shops choice (a more rounded group effort).

The benefit of that is, we can offer on a platter the 11 slices of pie from which you, (with the exceptional pallet) can place a vote upon your favourite slice, thus creating an official ‘peoples choice 2016′.

We always choose 11 as well, as it makes choosing 10 easier.

We will post all 11 on our Facebook page, and invite you to ‘like’ the album you think is the greatest of 2016!

In early January, we will choose a winning name from all of you online voters/likers and the winner will receive a record and meal voucher, to treat yourself and your efforts.

So look out soon on our socials and electronic note pages, as we post The people’s choice Pie&Vinyl record of the year! (or something as glamorous sounding as that)

Pie&Vinyl Presents…SPECTRES with support Gun Shy and Spaff Tits

Spectres Hawk Portsmouth edit Aug5th-min

Pie & Vinyl Presents has a tasty treat for you this September. A ‘cathartic baptism in a sonic lake of unholy frequencies that will leave you acutely aware of the tenuous grip you have on mortality’ type of treat. Spectresare coming. Yum.

Hailing from the sleepy Devon town of Barnstaple the band decamped to Bristol to find an audience for their rabid noise rock / shoegaze mongrel. Taking care to maintain control on everything they put their name to they released their long awaited debut ‘Dying’ on esteemed indie Sonic Cathedral in 2015.

Meeting the challenge of its title, the album is an immersing exploration of life, death, insomnia and addiction set against a soundscape of grinding guitars, pummelling rhythms and disembodied chanted vocals which serve to soothe and scare in equal measure.

‘The stink of the corpse of rock has never sounded so good.’ – The Line Of Best Fit. 8.5 / 10.

‘Bristol noise-freaks’ debut is a deeply unsettling but utterly compelling listen.’ – NME Magazine. 9 / 10.

‘Despite the luxurious, audible excess, ‘Dying’ is a masterclass of refrain.’ – DIY. 4 / 5.

‘Disturbingly cathartic yet unnervingly compelling, Dying is a record that demands to be heard from start to finish.’ – Drowned in Sound. 8 / 10.

Be sure also to check out the ‘Hunger’ ep released in 2013 which as just good as anything on the album and the ‘Dead’ remix album which features new takes on the tracks from ‘Dying’ from HookwormsFactory Floor, Andy Bell of Ride (band) and Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai amongst others. They are currently working up album number 2 and are taking time out from recording to play this one off show.

Live they deliver an uncompromising brutal performance, akin to Swans in the way build hypnotic maelstroms from the smallest of fragments before smashing them to pieces. The sound system at the The Roundhouse, Camden was given a thorough examination when they opened for Lush (band) recently so we expect an obliteration of the intimate confines atDrift – in a good way of course. To further increase the intensity of their onslaught they’ll be projecting visuals on the night too – they will not be Disney.

Opening and making their Southsea debut will be Southampton based grunge-gazers Gun Shy. Formed by former MILK TEETH guitarist Josh Bannister following his departure earlier this year, Gun Shy have already achieved a ton of exposure on the blogs and release the ep ‘First Transmission’ on Failure by Design Records on May 6th. Expect to see more from them soon. Lots more.

  • Doors – 8:00
    •Spaff Tits – 8:20
    • Gun Shy – 9:00
    • Spectres – 10:00
    • After Party – 11:00 – 03:00

Entry to the after party is also included within the ticket price so you can keep going until 3am should you wish. Drinks offers starting from £1.50 will be available all night. Just over 100 tickets available so be sure to pick one up soon as they will move QUICK.

Tickets can be purchased instore at Southsea’s Pie and Vinyl in Castle Road for the top value price of £6 a piece or online via wegottickets using the link below. Being completely unbiased we suggest you get them instore as you’ll avoid a booking fee and can enjoy the wonderful grub and vinyl goodies on offer.

Finally – Drift is an 18+ venue so if you don’t bring ID you may not get in. BRING ID.
